To protest Belmont's regressive solar policies, namely not participating in the state (Commonwealth Solar II) rebate program, having an incomprehensible and solar-averse net metering policy, and the overall lack of cooperation on and support for solar initiatives, principally by the BMLD. The lump of coal also represents the EPA-estimated 15% of electricity in the region that comes from coal, a nonrenewable source of energy that contributes to global warming.
