Timber Frame Company Builds First Caribbean Timber Frame HomeDavis Timber Frame Company builds first timber frame home in the Caribbean. This new home is located on an oceanfront lot on the island of Grand Cayman.
The custom design features 3 timber frame pods inspired by Davis Frame's Japanese Tea House floor plan. Pod 1 will feature the main living space including the living room, dining room and kitchen. Pod 2 will host the luxurious master bedroom suite and pod 3 will feature 2 guest bedroom suites. Each pod will feature a deck that will lead to the pool facing the ocean. Timber framing was chosen as the method of construction not only for its beauty but also for its durability. Timber framing creates a long lasting structure that is designed to last for generations. Large timbers were used and are joined together by traditional mortise and tenon joinery using oak pegs. To minimize the potential impact of hurricane force winds, the timber posts are secured to the concrete slab by 3/4 inch galvanized threaded rods. The rods are embedded into the concrete and held by epoxy, making this stronger than concrete. A standing seam aluminum metal roof was chosen and metal strapping is also being used to secure the roof system to the ground. Davis Frame also provided the engineered pressure treated panelized wall and roof system that will be used on the home.
