Project Sales Corp brings high temperature Potting Materials for Lifting Magnets

Lifting Electromagnets in steel mills - picks up billets, pig iron, etc from the discharge table and takes it to the stackyard. Exposed to high temperatures, humidity and shock loads. The coil inside needs to be protected with proper encapsulants.

Dec. 18, 2011 - PRLog -- Conventional encapsulants designed for cold temperature application depolymerise in confined conditions and heat and would cause coil and magnet failure. This also exposed the process to a severe risk and safety hazard as magnet failure could result in held material falling from height.

Steel Mills have traditionally used low priced materials available through several silicone suppliers for potting electromagnets and these have led to premature failures of the magnet coils.

Project Sales Corp brought in Sylgard 170 A&B for the first time to India in 2004 and has been supplying these to Vizag Steel, Jindal and through business associates to Tata Steel and some magnet manufacturers like East Coast (Sarda) in India.

Says Satish Agrawal, Managing Partner of this specialty silicones supplier, Project Sales Corp, "the curing process of conventional silicones used had high chances of reversal and failures. Needed was a reversion resistant product which can handle the heat, shock loads and curing in confined conditions". Vizag Steel started using the product in 2004 and till date has been using only Sylgard 170 A&B. The magnet failures have come down drastically. "No magnet failure due to product depolymerization. Improved Safety. No downtime. Total quantity consumed by customer came down from over 2000 kgs per annum to 600 kgs per annum. Product now used for over 6 years." says Satish Agrawal speaking of the improvements the product has brought to the customer.

Additionally the product offered is reversion resistant; has easy processability; low viscosity; one to one mix ratio; does not require lot matching; different colour A&B makes mixing easier; is UL rated; and cures in confined conditions.

Technical Advantages of the product:
•Reversion Resistance: Unique “addition reaction 1:1” curing process which produces no cure by-product. Excellent reversion resistance at very elevated temperatures.
•Low Toxicity: No special precautions required for normal industrial handling
•No solvents or cure by-product: Requires no special venting;cure can be easily heat accelerated; will not cause corrosion
•One to one mix ratio: Part A and Part B components do not require lot matching; provides more accurate and simplified handling and processing. Coloured white and black for easy identification.
•Excellent fire resistant properties: Provides fire protection and maintains UL fire rating classifications of 94 V-0. Passed large scale functional fire tests in accordance with ASTM E-119-73 asa fire stop material.

The product comes in pack size of 4.9 kgs A and 4.9 kgs B and 1 kit equals 9.8 kgs. Typical lead time for supply is 4 weeks, however shorter deliver schedules can be accommodated based on availability.
