Jan. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Governor Jerry Brown recently signed several employment laws that go into effect Jan. 1, 2012 and will impact how businesses protect employees in specific situations. Meghan B. Clark, Esq., a partner in the Employment Law Group at Ferguson Case Orr Paterson LLP, will explain the laws and their immediate impact for businesses, employment policies and on HR professionals at “The Employment Law Update for 2012,” a free seminar hosted by Ferguson Case Orr Paterson LLP from 7:30 – 9 a.m., Jan. 19. The event is part of the FCOP Ranch House Roundtable Series and held at the Ranch House on the Ferguson Case Orr Paterson LLP property, 1050 S. Kimball Road, Ventura.
“Many laws change from year to year, so it’s important that business owners stay current to stay out of litigation or violation of the law. This seminar is timed to give attendees an opportunity to adjust their business practices now for benefits all year long,” said Clark.
The morning seminar will also address insurance coverage for employees on Pregnancy Disability Leave, increased penalties for employees misclassified as independent contractors, protections for people regarding gender identification, new posting requirements on unionizing, necessary information provided to non-exempt employees, and more.
For more information or to RSVP, contact Jessica Hammer at 659-6800 or jhammer@fcoplaw.com. Although there is no cost for this seminar, please register by Jan. 16, 2012 if you wish to attend. Seating is limited and offered on a first come, first served basis.
Admitted to the bar in 1998, Clark provides day-to-day advice to employers on all matters including handling terminations, development of employment policies and counseling employees. She has successfully defended employers in lawsuits involving harassment and discrimination, pregnancy disability and leave of absence issues.
