Thanks Project helps Women at Domestic Shelter

Jan. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Local event planner successfully hosts donation drive to provide women impacted by domestic abuse necessary essentials. When Shawntel Asemota thought about what she wanted to do for the holiday season, her giving spirit compelled her to create a donation drive to help others. While most people choose to donate clothes and toys, she decided to host a drive collecting much needed essentials for the Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence located in Decatur, GA.

“The SOA Thanks Project was my way of giving back to these women as well as the shelter who typically provides them with not just a living space but everyday items like soap and toothpaste,” states Shawntel, Creative Director of SOA Event Concepts.

Thanks to donations from Tarin Boone, creator of Naturally Me Media made on behalf of Shea Moisture and Organic Root Stimulator and from supporters as far as New York and Chicago, The SOA Thanks Project was a huge success. Items collected include African American hair care items, feminine products, toothpaste and bath essentials, as well as clothes and towels. Shawntel hopes to be able to make this project an annual event, growing in support as the word spreads.

“It is my hope that in 2012 we are able to do The SOA Thanks Project even bigger! With the support of the local and national community, I know it will be possible.” expresses Shawntel.

The Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence, initiated in 1986, is a local Atlanta charity that provides a safe haven for women and children impacted by domestic violence.
