Tribute to Jackee Abercrombie this Sunday, Jan 8, 2-5 pm at Fine Art Carolina Gallery in Mebane

Jan. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Fine Art Carolina will hold a reception for Jackee Abercrombie, a longtime Mebane librarian, at the gallery from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday with live music by Hal Engler.

Fine Art Carolina artist Pat Scheible has created a portrait of her friend, which will be unveiled by Mayor Glendel Stephenson during the event.

Although retired, Jackee is still involved with programs of the library. She wishes to purchase Newbery and Caldecott award winning books for the Mebane library and bring the author-storyteller, Carol Boston-Weatherford, to Burlington to raise awareness of the importance of literature for adolescent/young adult readers.

“Jackee calls them the most underserved of all readers,” Scheible said.

The artists at Fine Art Carolina will be selling a special edition greeting card set including images of artwork of the five artists, Ali Givens, Jude Lobe, Celine Meador, Pat Scheible and Pam Watts, for $10. One hundred percent of the sales of those note cards in a two-week period, from Jan. 6 -- Jan 20, and 10% of sales of artwork during the event will be donated to Jackee to help fund her project.

“Children have grown up under her watchful eye,” Scheible added.

Pat Scheible and her husband, Paul, moved to Mebane in 1976 and she met Abercrombie when she would “go in to the library and make strange requests. And Jackee would always come through. And the book clubs she was involved with were always reading the most interesting things.”
