Jan. 11, 2012 - PRLog -- The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) has learned that in recent days Merck Pharmaceuticals announced that it was planning on “making whatever deals are necessary” to make sure the company maintains its lead in developing and manufacturing oral medications to treat the Hepatitis C virus.

If Merck’s MK-5172 drug trials are successful it may become the foundation medicine for future combination pill treatments, according to Roger Pomerantz, Merck Pharmaceutical’s worldwide head of licensing and acquisitions.

This is good news since the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says that “Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is the most common chronic bloodborne infection in the United States; approximately 3.2 million persons are chronically infected.”

Many viruses (including the Hepatitis C virus) can infect the body and then begin storing dormant (sleeping) copies of themselves (imagine hibernating, clone soldiers) somewhere in the body’s organs. In fact, the Hepatitis viruses can indeed become these types of dormant viruses. When the virus copies are latent, or dormant (asleep) they stop making copies of themselves, but their DNA is never fully destroyed by the body. While the virus is asleep, the person has no symptoms even though the virus lives within the person’s body for life.

In addition, the FDA says, “Some viruses…can enter a state known as latency in which the virus is not being replicated. In the latent state, the virus does not cause disease.”

However, many viruses can awaken and begin reproducing. As a prime example, people who have had a fever blister or cold sore have experienced an awakening of the Herpes (HSV-1) virus within their systems. The virus clones awaken and immediately begin attacking the body resulting in an unsightly, Oral Herpes outbreak.

The same thing happens with many other viruses including the Hepatitis C virus. It assaults the body and then settles into a dormant, sleeping state…just waiting to wake up again and attack the human system at the right opportunity.

That is why the CBCD believes that more research into scientifically based, natural methods of combating dormant viruses is so important. It makes sense that methods for killing dormant viruses (including the dormant Hepatitis C virus) or boosting the immune system so that the human body eradicates viruses before they even become active, would be the best means of preventing diseases caused by viruses.

Some biotechnology companies such as polyDNA have emerged in this field of research and have produced natural, Hepatitis C remedies such as Gene-Eden-Blue.

The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD, http://www.cbcd.net) is a research center recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) non-for-profit organization. The mission of the CBCD is to advance the research on the biology of chronic diseases, and to accelerate the discovery of treatments for these diseases.

The CBCD published the “Purple” book by Dr. Hanan Polansky. The book presents Dr. Polansky’s highly acclaimed scientific theory on the relationship between the DNA of latent (chronic) viruses and the onset of chronic diseases. Dr. Polansky’s book is available as a free download from the CBCD website.
