Add lawn mowers, leaf blowers, weed-whackers and snow blowers to the list of machines that the Madison Bicycle Shop will work on because the regularly evolving New Jersey bicycle retailer is expanding its offerings for 2012 by adding small engine repairs to its menu of services.

The Madison Bicycle Shop, a bicycle retailer and service location for northern New Jersey since 1965, can now be counted among the area’s very few small engine repair shops.  

“We saw a real need in the area and set out to fill it,” says shop owner Sal Piccolo.  “It seems like a lot of people around here over the past few seasons have been having a lot of problems with their outdoor power equipment and our clientele have even been asking us pretty often if we could recommend repair shops, but the few that we know of around here seem to be extremely over-loaded with month-long plus waits.”  

Both Piccolo and another member of his staff have extensive experience repairing such equipment and this year the decision was made to offer up that expertise to the public. “Every winter we try to get into something different, remodel a part of our store or develop something new to offer to the customers.  This year we did both.”

Shortly after Christmas, Piccolo opened dealer accounts with all the best parts distributors in the nation and even before the conclusion of this first month of the New Year, he and his staff converted an inefficiently used portion of the shop’s storeroom into an impressively neat workspace dedicated solely to small engine repairs and, Piccolo added, “packed it with a bunch of shiny new tools.”  

“We’re well known for having the cleanest bike repair shop around and even though we’ll be working with much dirtier machines back here I know we’ll be able to keep it looking just like this for a long time.”
