Casio Watch Fans Coldplay to Play Secret Policeman's Ball

Jan. 30, 2012 - PRLog -- English Indie Rockers Coldplay have announced that they are to play the New York Secret Policeman’s Ball.  The event will also feature Mumford and Son as well as Daily Show host Jon Stewart and comedians Stephen Colbert and Reggie Watts.  Also appearing alongside the Casio wearing star will be British comedian Russell Brand.

The Secret Policeman’s Ball is a series of shows created in support of the human rights charity Amnesty international.  The first ball took place in 1976 and was organised by former Python John Cleese.  

The show supported the charity in its mission to bring the rights and the benefits of freedom of expression to citizens who are persecuted by repressive regimes.   Its mix of social message and practical fundraising served as an example for other luminaries of the entertainment scene and is thought to have been an inspiration for later events such as Live Aid.

The New York event is the first time that the Secret Policeman’s Ball has been held outside of the UK.  Organisers are hoping that the move to a different continent will raise awareness of the charity and its goals in the United States of Amercia.

Coldplay are still enjoying chart success with their latest album Mylo Cyloto which has spent 13 weeks on the chart. The band and in particular their Casio Watches wearing front man Chris Martin have long supported the cause of Amnesty international.  In the past, the group has been a major supporter of the Oxfam Make Trade Fair campaign.  

The group along with Casio Watches wearer Martin have appeared at events including Band Aid 20, Live 8, Sound Relief and Hope for Haiti now.  They are also involved in supporting the UK based charity, the Teenage Cancer Trust.
