Tel: 703-901-0720 Email: info@mpvusa.org Imam Daayiee Abdullah, Director of MPV’s LGBTQ Outreach Program, on hearing the news expressed “The Ninth Circuit Judges have again focused on the real matter of the Prop 8 Legislation and returned it to the dustbin of history showing that majority rule cannot take away inalienable rights of minorities. The Judges recognized that the right to marry was the original intent of California’s legislators as well as the United States Constitution. Thus, the Ninth Circuit’s finding the narrowly prescribed legislation of Proposition 8 unconstitutional reaffirms the rights of LGBTQ Californians to marry those of their choice.” MPV operates under Ten Principles of which number seven reads: "LGBTQ Rights: We endorse the human and civil rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ) individuals. We support full equality and inclusion of all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, in society and in the Muslim community. We affirm our commitment to ending discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity." Further, MPV thanks attorneys Ted Boutrous and Ted Olson for their legal arguments to convince the Ninth Circuit, and we further congratulate Judge Stephen Reinhardt and Judge Michael Hawkins for standing firm in their opinion and their defense of the human rights of all Californians including those of the LGBTQ community.
