Austin Reed Delivers 1-2 Punch in First Legends Car Race of the Season

Reed topped the stout field of Legend Car racers from across the Southern California region on Saturday by setting the pace in qualifying, winning his heat race and then winning the feature event in only his second career roadcourse appearance.

Feb. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- Austin Reed, an 18-year old honors student at Frontier High School in Bakersfield and driver of the Approved Memory/K&N Filters sponsored Legend car, continued his study in motorsports finishing first and second in two races this past weekend on the 2.5-mile 9-turn roadcourse of Willow Springs International Raceway located in the California desert near Rosamond.

Reed topped the stout field of Legend Car racers from across the Southern California region on Saturday by setting the pace in qualifying, winning his heat race and then winning the feature event in only his second career roadcourse appearance.

Sunday, the teams were back at it but with a twist. They would tour the 2.5-mile layout in a counterclockwise position, which provided challenges to the team. "We struggled with our gear a bit on Sunday," Reed said. "We found that we were a lot faster on Sunday as the front-stretch was downhill and we had the wrong gear through practice. After we changed the gear I just did not get enough track time to perfect the new shifting points."

Reed overcame his deficit and marched through the field challenging for the win in the final lap but came up just a bit short and settled for second place. "I thought we had him but needed one more corner," stated Reed. "All in all it was a fun weekend and I really enjoyed racing on a roadcourse. It was a great way to start the season."

Plans call for Reed to race in the SRL Legend Car series this season as well as making his debut in the SRL Southwest Tour in March along with competing at the prestigious Legends Summer Shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway this summer.

Jason Jefferson Set To Drive for Dave Reed in 2012

Friendships are formed by chance meetings and so is the case with Dave Reed and Jason Jefferson. Both men have long spotted in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and both have a passion for racing.

"You have a unique opportunity to meet people in the spotter's stand," said Jefferson. "Dave and I always seemed to have the opportunity to talk as our car numbers had us lined next to each other at most events. We have kind of built up a friendship the past couple of seasons."

That friendship has landed Jefferson in the driver's seat of a Dave Reed owned SRL Southwest Series car for a few races this season. "I was blown away when Dave called and asked if I wanted to drive his car," Jefferson added. "I have not really raced much the past few years and had resigned myself to working on the outside of the car rather than driving."

Jefferson comes from a racing family out of Yakima, WA where his father (George) and his uncle (Harry) are legends in Northwest racing lore. His brother Jeff is a three-time NASCAR NW Tour champion. The younger Jefferson followed in the family tradition carving out his own niche while creating a history of his own.

Jason Jefferson has won in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, the now defunct NASCAR NW Tour, and has posted nearly 100 Late Model wins in the region where he was the class of the field at both Yakima Speedway and the now shuttered Tri-Cities Raceway, both tracks are located in Washington state.

Plans call for Jefferson to pilot the #15 Approved Memory Ford in at least three SRL events to start the season and based on sponsorship development, more races could be added to the schedule. "I am really excited to race in the SRL," Jefferson said. "I love these types of cars and getting back behind the wheel and racing for Dave Reed is going to be a lot of fun."
