Feb. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- BOULDER, CO – February 21, 2012 – The Boulder Concert Band ,  one of the premier adult community bands in Colorado, today announced that its upcoming concert will feature toe-tapping dance music and talented local dancers on February 25 at 7 pm at the Manhattan Middle School of Arts & Academics in Boulder, CO.

Dr. Dana Maurice Biggs, conductor, invites the community to join the Boulder Concert Band for its “Let’s Dance” concert, featuring these popular dance tunes:

•   Benny Goodman’s The King of Swing,  showcasing dancers Jill Cohen and Jon Dyer
•   Symphonic Dances from Fiddler On the Roof by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, highlighting dancers Judy Kreith and Mike Brown
•   Three Celtic Dances by Brian Balmages, starring  Elizabeth Barton and the Celtic Steps Dance Group
•   The Running Set, founded on traditional dance tunes, by R. Vaughan Williams
•   And more great dance music!

About Dr. Dana Biggs, Conductor

Dana Maurice Biggs serves as the conductor and musical director of the Boulder Concert Band, and is instructor of music and music education and assistant director of bands at the University of Colorado, Boulder.  He received his Masters of Music degree in instrumental conducting from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky and his Bachelors of Music Education degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.  Dr. Biggs remains active as a clinician, adjudicator, drill designer and guest conductor throughout the United States.

The first records of a performing band in the city of Boulder date back to 1870. The Boulder Concert Band as we know it today was reorganized in 1976 by the late Hugh McMillen, former Director of Bands at the University of Colorado. Considered to be one of the premier adult community bands in the state, the current organization has over 70 volunteer musicians. Its members are from the business, professional, and educational communities in the Boulder County and Denver metro area.
