This prestigious award was presented by the publisher of Aquafeed.com, Suzi Dominy, in a ceremony during Victam Asia 2012, in Bangkok, Thailand. “That aquaculture is the fastest growing livestock sector in the world – and that mostly in Asia - is largely thanks to the development of feeds for a vast and growing array of species”, Dominy said. “We wanted to recognize the achievements of the supply sector in providing products that help grow and develop the aquaculture feed industry: we have a very worthy winner in Wenger Manufacturing” “Wenger’s new extrusion system, designed specifically for aquatic feed processing, is a real step forward. Our panel was impressed by the array of new features, and that it can increase production rates by three to five times for small diameter aquatic feeds – and for shrimp feeds in particular”. Accepting the award on behalf of Kansas, USA -based Wenger Manufacturing, Mr. Joe Kearns, Aquaculture Process Engineering Manager, said: “It was an honor to actually have an entry for the first ever Aquafeed Innovation Award and it is a greater honor to receive this award on behalf of Wenger Manufacturing. HIGHLY COMMENDED A strong field of contenders resulted in Highly Commended Awards in two categories: technology and ingredients and additives. The Highly Commended Award for feed technology recognized Geelen Counterflow for its Postconditioner MkII. The new double deck post conditioner for pelleted shrimp feed, provides high temperature conditioning after pelleting, before drying and cooling. The Highly Commended Award for feed ingredients and additives was awarded to Dr. Eckle for its product AntaPhyt Aqua, a customized combination of organic acids with special plant extracts and other components that were specially developed for their palatability and efficacy in aquaculture. The resulting performance boosting product can be incorporated in all kinds of aquafeeds for a wide range of species. The awards were judged by a panel of feed industry professionals with a wealth of experience. They represented the industry worldwide.
