By: Outi Armstrong DESCRIPTION In the current global market, many major retailers and branded food manufacturers require their suppliers to comply with Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognized standards. The GFSI is an organization that approves food safety standards or schemes; it is not a standard itself. The main schemes currently approved by the GFSI are: Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000 British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standard for Food Safety Safe Quality Food (SQF) International Food Standard (IFS) Some of major branded food manufacturers also require their food suppliers to comply with one or more of these GFSI recognized standards. OBJECTIVE This seminar is intended to be an overview of the latest versions of each of the schemes listed above and to help participants understand the commonalities between the certification requirements of the main schemes as well as some of the pitfalls to certification. This will help you decide which scheme is best suited to your company. Participants will gain an overview of how to evaluate their management systems and practices & determine the modifications needed to meet the requirements of the GFSI recognized schemes. Many food industry suppliers and their customers are under pressure to reduce risk in areas other than just food safety while keeping costs manageable. SGS certification audits can be integrated, allowing clients to meet the requirements of a GFSI recognized scheme as well as other ISO standards, (e.g. ISO 14001 and/or OHSAS 18001), within a single audit, preventing costly down time and saving money. TARGET AUDIENCE Designed for food manufacturers who supply or plan to supply their product to major food retailers or major branded food companies as well as for retailers or companies who buy ingredients, processing aids or packaging from global suppliers and want to better understand the key requirements of the major GFSI recognized schemes. PRESENTER Victor Muliyil, North America Food Technical Manager Victor is a lead auditor & trainer for GFSI approved standards and has extensive food industry, auditing and training experience around the world since 1986.
