NewGate School, Sarasota introduces Tennis Program

March 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Sarasota, FL – March 5th, 2012 – Every Tuesday morning the Primary and the Lower Elementary students, ages 3-9, at New Gate School (NGS) can be heard gleefully playing a game of tennis throughout the late morning. Debby Hradek, a parent, watched her son in amazement as he played what seemed to be a game of Red Light, Green Light, only this time the students were balancing a large yellow and red ball on their racquets as they ran back and forth. “He looks forward to this every week, and it’s all he talks about now,” added Debby. Tuesdays have quickly become “Tennis Tuesday” for many students at school according to parents.

New Gate School adopted the USTA 10 and Under Tennis Program this year, spearheaded by Scott Treibly, a professional tennis coach with IMG/Bollettieri Academies and NGS parent, together with Coach Dave NewGate School’s Head PE Coach. “We want to cultivate a generation of enthusiastic tennis players who can enjoy the sport for a lifetime,” said Scott, as he addressed a group of NewGate School parents.


10 and Under Tennis is a great way to introduce little ones to the game because it’s scaled to their sizes and strengths. It is an enjoyable and accessible way to begin tennis, and it provides a healthy opportunity for kids to practice gross motor skills like running, jumping, swinging, throwing and catching. New Gate was awarded a grant from the USTA which furnished racquets, balls and a tennis net.  

Michelle Obama a spokesperson for Under 10 Tennis calls it, “Tennis sized just right for kids”. Coach Scott believes that simplicity and fun are the goals for students at this age, and he looks forward to continuing to develop this sport of a lifetime with the students from a young age within the Montessori philosophy at NewGate School.
