Haynesville Shale Has Emerged as a Major Natural Gas Producing Play in the US

March 9, 2012 - PRLog -- The Haynesville shale has emerged as one of the most promising natural gas producing shales in the US.
The shale is primarily a natural gas producing shale. The total production from Haynesville/Bossier shale increased from 427.23bcfe in 2008 to 1,877.15bcfe in 2010.

According to the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, total production in the Haynesville shale in
Louisiana increased significantly from 18.32bcfe in 2008 to 1,198.6.8bcfe in 2010 at a CAGR of 7.09%.

As per Railroad Commission of Texas, natural gas production in the Haynesville shale in East Texas increased from 408.91bcfe in 2008 to 678.59bcfe in 2010. The figure below provides details of historic and forecast production from Haynesville shale between 2008 and 2020.

The Haynesville shale play (Louisiana) has witnessed a rapid increase in drilling activities in 2009–2011. The total number of producing wells in the Haynesville shale of Louisiana increased from 1,156 in February 2011 to 1,802 in January 2012, showing a 55% increase in the number of producing wells during the period.

Moreover, among the companies drilling in the Louisiana shale play, Chesapeake Energy has been the most active driller in the shale play drilling a total of 708 wells till October 2011. Other major drillers in the shale are EXCO with 301, Petrohawk with 262, EnCana with 253, and SWEPI LP with 143 wells.

Major oil and gas companies such as Chesapeake Energy Corporation, have been undertaking activities to increase their production with the help of improved infrastructure and developmental facilities in the Haynesville shale. These producing companies have worked with many of the large pipeline companies to address the need for transiting the crude extracted from the producing wells to the end-user markets in 2011. Enterprise Products Partners L.P. and Acadian Gas LLC’s jointly developed Acadian Haynesville Extension pipeline in November 2011. Similarly, Energy Transfer Partners LP completed its (ETC) Tiger Pipeline project in December 2010. The pipeline is connected to seven interstate pipelines and takes the production from Haynesville/Bossier shale to Midwest and Northeast customers
