Fielding Welcomes The Honourable Minister Gary Goodyear

The Honourable Gary Goodyear visits Fielding

Fielding Chemical Technologies Inc. (Fielding) was honoured to welcome Minister Gary Goodyear, the Minister of State (Science and Technology) (Federal Economic Development Agency (FEDA) for Southern Ontario) to its site on Mavis Road on Friday, March 16, 2012.  

Also in attendance were:
-   Mr. Bob Dechert, Member of Parliament Mississauga-Erindale, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs;
-   Larry Petrovello, Director of Economic Development from the City of Mississauga;
-   Ron Starr, Councillor, Ward 6, City of Mississauga and Region of Peel;
-   Directors at Switchable Solutions included Ellen McGregor, Principal and Chair of Fielding, and Rui Resendes, PhD, Executive Director, GreenCentre Canada; and
-   Representatives from Switchable Solutions Inc. (SSI) – Eric Kelusky, Chief Technology Officer and Mary Fraser, Chief Financial Officer.

The dignitaries gathered with Fielding staff to celebrate the support the FEDA is providing to SSI to build two demonstration plants. SSI is applying its revolutionary, green, solvent-based platform technology to efficiently and in an environmentally friendly method, extract bitumen from oil sands and to recycle post-consumer plastic waste.  The technology is distinguished by its ability to operate at nominal temperatures and pressures without energy intensive distillation associated with conventional solvents.

The plastics recycling demonstration plant will be located at Fielding’s site in Mississauga.  Fielding is a founding partner of SSI. “We are very excited to have the opportunity to host the plastics demonstration plant right here on our site in Mississauga,” stated Ellen McGregor.

“This is a terrific fit with our existing business here at Fielding where we are already Canada’s leader in the repurposing of spent solvents and refrigerants,” says Paul Haskins, President and CEO of Fielding.  Fielding has been heavily involved in the development of the plastics recycling application of the technology and currently provides office space for the executives of SSI.
