March 28, 2012 - PRLog -- Today, in honor of National Doctors’ Day, Heywood Hospital recognized our physicians and the many vital contributions they make everyday to our patients and our community with our annual Doctors’ Day Breakfast.

“Our physicians are dedicated to the health of our patients and our community,” said Heywood Hospital President & CEO Win Brown. “They are committed to easing the pain and suffering of our patients and to improving the overall health of the people that live in our region. It is a privilege to work together with these highly skilled medical professionals to fulfill the mission of our hospital.”

The first Doctors’ Day, held on March 30, 1930 in Winder, Georgia, was inspired by the wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond. As the wife of a physician, Mrs. Almond truly understood the many contributions made by physicians, which motivated her to create a special day to honor them. The first observations of the holiday included mailing greeting cards to physicians and adorning the graves of deceased physicians with flowers. Since that time, the red carnation has been associated with Doctors’ Day.

In 1990, the United States Senate and the House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved legislation to officially designate March 30th as National Doctors’ Day.

This Thursday, March 30th on National Doctors’ Day, please take a moment to remember your physicians and the many ways in which they have improved your health and your life, and the wellbeing of our community.
