Discovering Deaf Worlds, Inc to Host Second Annual Benefit at Haroo East Ballroom

March 30, 2012 - PRLog -- In the past five years, DDW staff members have volunteered more than 30,000 hours to connect with over 250 Deaf schools and organizations from 50 countries, creating one of the largest international Deaf advocacy networks in the world. Future projects include capacity building training partnerships with Deaf leadership teams in the Philippines, Costa Rica and India- all of which aim to improve Deaf education, employment opportunities and human rights circumstances for Deaf people in developing countries.  

Following the success from last year’s benefit, 300 guests are anticipated to attend this cocktail party in celebration of DDW’s recent achievements. DDW’s 2011 Service Provider of the Year Award will be presented to GoPhilanthropic for their outstanding commitment to provide international tours accessible in sign language to the local Deaf community in Rochester, NY.  

This event is sponsored by The University of Rochester American Sign Language Department, The Post-secondary Education Network International at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, Interpretek, Sorenson Communications, and M&T Bank, among others. The evening will conclude with an African drum and dance performance by Rochester-based non-profit, BushMango.
