Follow on Google News | MLG Secures $250,000 Settlement for an Employee Victim of Discrimination and WrongfulMesriani Law Group, a leading California law firm, successfully obtained a $250,000 settlement for the client-employee who was subjected to discrimination in the work place and wrongful termination.
By: Tricia Hallare The client-employee started working at a bank in Hong Kong when he was in his early 20s. His hard work paid off when he was offered a permanent position as a manager in the bank’s Los Angeles branch. Within two years, he was promoted to Vice President and Bank Manager based on his good performance. Under his leadership, the once non-performing branch became a profit-making financial institution. The bank’s sustained growth prompted its management to expand. It was during this expansion move that another bank became its majority shareholder. The said expansion made the employee’s bank a wholly owned subsidiary of the majority shareholder bank. The client-employee was assured by the new management that he would retain his title, position and salary. It was around this time that another high-ranking employee was sent to work as Assistant Vice President under the client-employee. Within a few months, the high-ranking employee was promoted to Regional VP, a position and salary higher than that of the client-employee. From this point, the high-ranking employee started making decisions that were clearly not based on sound business principles and workplace ethics. Among such decisions was his hiring of a friend from New York as a new loan officer in spite of his friend’s inadequate experience and job position. When said high-ranking employee’s friend resigned, he then hired an intern from Mainland China with no banking experience, paying her around $30,000-$35,000 for the position. This practice continued, with him hiring younger and younger employees, all of whom were from Mainland China and with the majority of the new hires being female. In late 2010, the client-employee and three other fellow employees were nominated for promotion—he was to be promoted as the Senior Vice President (SVP). Although nominated, his promotion was denied, while the other three employees’ promotions were granted. No explanation was given him regarding the denial. Aside from these clearly biased actions against the client-employee, the high-ranking employee also subjected the client-employee to different forms of humiliation before other company employees with the intention of forcing him to retire. Aside from that, the client-employee was also threatened termination should he divulge irregularities regarding the handing out of bonuses. Eventually, the client-employee was terminated on October 31, 2011. Nevertheless, through the expert legal services provided by Mesriani Law Group, the client-employee was able to file for wrongful termination claim, which led to the successful out-of-court settlement. This settlement adds to Mesriani Law Group’s continuing success in its more than 15 years of legal practice.
