The U.S. Economy and Nanny Placements

April 9, 2012 - PRLog -- In economics, there are many indicators that signal a weakening or strengthening economy. Indicators for growth and expansion tend to be found in the service industries like transportation, retail and food.  One lesser watched economic indicator is domestic services.  The domestic services industry includes housekeeping, household managers, nannies, and chefs.  This trend has been observed several times over the past 20 years.

Across the domestic services industry, there have been dramatic upswings since July of 2011.  As the domestic services demand changed over the past 18 months, the nation's economy follows a few months later.

Looking specifically at the recent growth in nanny placement services, there was a 7% increase for nanny services in the 3rd quarter 2011.  In the 4th quarter 2011, the demand was up by 12%.  And, in the 1st quarter of 2012, demand for nanny services has increased by 17% from last year's demand.

Each of the past three quarters has had an increase in domestic services demand.  As this demand increased, shortly thereafter the U.S. economy began producing more jobs, experiencing more housing starts and retail sales, and had a higher GDP.  With the solid 17% increase for domestic services in the 1st quarter 2012,  expectations are that the economy will strengthen even more.
