Amity University Becomes Member of Ankabut

Ankabut announced today Amity University located in Academic City Dubai has been accepted as a member of the UAE Advanced Network for Research and Education.

April 10, 2012 - PRLog -- Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. – 10, April, 2012 – Ankabut announced today Amity University located in Academic City Dubai has been accepted as a member of the UAE Advanced Network for Research and Education.  

The Ankabut network provides access to more than 75,000 students, researchers and educators in 54 UAE locations. The international network links to over 200 million advanced network users worldwide, over 70,000 research and educational institutions and nearly 100 international Advanced Network for Research and Education (NREN).

Chancellor Atul Chauhan of Amity University Dubai, said: “We are honoured to support Ankabut, the UAE Advanced Network for Research and Education. Amity is at the forefront of cutting edge technology and scientific research and the partnership will foster closer collaboration with a wide network of academic institutions, corporations and government agencies. Amity will be connected to the network by the summer of 2012.

About Ankabut

Ankabut is the United Arab Emirates’ Advanced National Research and Education Network (NREN) offering academic institutions connectivity to other education networks around the world.  In addition to connecting universities, Ankabut can connect schools and public institutions together across the UAE with an effective cost model.  Ankabut also co-operates on a national, GCC, regional and international arena representing the UAE in conferences, exhibitions and forums.  Ankabut aims to offer QoS based networks with IPv4/IPv6, multicast and introduce advanced services on a “Closed Group Network” with “Public Interest Purposes”.

It enables a closed community network that allows the transfer of real-time services such as converged IM, voice and video communication, time-critical services such as grid computing interconnect (cloud computing), non-real time services such as e-learning, email, library interconnect, off-site disaster recovery, global federated single-sign-on and Wi-Fi networking.

Ankabut is jointly funded by the TRA through the ICT Fund and by Khalifa University who also manages the project.
