The Soul by Ludacris SL150 headphones are a sleek and comfortable choice for any professional or serious music lover who wants a powerful, precise audio mix experience on the go. The SL150 headphone is a comfortable over ear headset that does not favor one end of the music spectrum over the other, keeping the music as close to how the music was meant to be heard as possible.

Review:
The fancy headphone market is booming, and it's easy to find a variety of flashy, well-designed cans in stores that cater to a very specific crowd. The Ludacris Soul line of headphones is one of the more recent entries, which are meant to appeal to hip-hop fans--as apparent by its endorsement by Grammy Award winning rapper Chris "Ludacris" Bridges. We take a listen to the SOUL by Ludacris SL150 Headphones  and find out if they sound as good as they look.

Look and feel
If there's one thing we can say about the Soul range of headphones, it's that they're definitely lookers. With a shiny white polycarbonate exterior (it's also available in glossy black), the SL150 looks great if you want a pair of headphones that stand out from the crowd. The decision to go with a curvier build also makes these headphones look more fashionable and less like the "DJ-styled" fare popularized by Beats by Dr. Dre cans.
There are two cables included in the package, a standard cord and another with an inline remote for iOS devices. A slightly bulky hardcase is provided to help protect these cans when they're folded.

Sound
We tested the Soul SL150 with a variety of music including R&B, pop and some rock and electronic. Our general impressions were mixed with sound being generally clear but excessive bass making the presentation muddy at times. All tracks were ripped to 256kbps VBR AAC and played back with an iPhone 4.
Cee Lo Green's Forget You was the first track we played and Cee Lo's high, gritty vocals came off as distinct and slightly forward above the drums and honky-tonk piano in the background. However, when the song got into full swing with several instruments adding to the dense melody, these headphones had a tendency to sound a bit overwhelmed. Another example was with the new Coldplay track Paradise, which is a dense electronic number with slightly recessed vocals. These treble-shy headphones were unable to present the full liveliness of the song with the kick drum taking precedence in the presentation and Chris Martin's voice coming off slightly muffled. The soundstage was a little narrow compared with similar but more mainstream headphones we've listened to such as the Marshall Major and Sennheiser HD218i.
Although not outstanding, we found the SL150's audio quality to be generally acceptable and occasionally quite good. Also, we recommend the Treble Booster equalizer setting on iOS devices, which helps clear up the midrange and emphasize higher frequencies nicely. We were able to make out more music detail and keep the bass from being too distracting on this EQ setting, too.

Comfort
Though the SL150 headphones are supra-aural models that rest on the ear instead of around it, they are remarkably comfortable with soft leatherette pads that are cushy enough to fit over a variety of ear types. Furthermore, unlike headphones with fixed earpads, the SL150's earpads are a little flexible--they tilt left and right--which give them the ability to fit heads of different sizes. We wouldn't hesitate to take these on a long flight even if they don't have an active noise-cancelling feature like the flagship SL300 model.

The good: Flashy looks; surprisingly comfortable; additional cable with inline remote included.
The bad: Bass can be overwhelming; narrow soundstage; expensive.

The bottom line: In a market of pricey celebrity-endorsed headphones, the Soul by Ludacris SL150 comes with a flashy design and provides a good deal of comfort in use. However, its copious bass levels and higher-than-average price would likely put off some audiophiles.
