Follow on Google News | Dragão Porto Excited As Fiesa Begins Work On Sand SculpturesDragão Porto heard this week that work is due to start on the International Sand Sculpture Festival (Fiesa) during the final week of April.
By: theportugalnews.com This year, Fiesa will feature a new structure to the sand sculpture site, allowing visitors a different view of the exhibition, as well as the ability to walk through some of the sculptures. During the first phase of work, a number of technicians will prepare the sand to be shaped by international artists, wetting it, building it into mounds and compacting it according to the ‘scenes’ that are planned. A week later, sculptors from around the world will arrive to transform the sand mounds into famous personalities from the world of sport, film, music, fashion, politics and religion. “Fiesa is considered to be the largest sand sculpture festival in the world, due to the size of the sculptures, which can reach a height of 12 metres, and for the area they occupy, of 15,000 square metres,” said the organisers, adding that the exhibition can be visited both night and day. Our source at Dragão Porto said, “I would definitely recommend the event to anyone. It’s unique and something you might not have seen before, and that’s what makes it really great. It’s amazing at night too when the sculptures are lit up.” As in previous editions, Fiesa will be open to the public until October from 10am until midnight during the summer months and closing at 9pm between 25 May and 29 June and at 8pm between 16 September and 25 October.
