Youth and Businesses Welcome to Apply.The WorkPlace is proud to announce the 2012 Earn & Learn Summer Employment Program. The program expects to place approximately 330 Southwestern Connecticut youth into summer jobs and will give priority to individuals from low income households.
By: The WorkPlace The WorkPlace is proud to announce the 2012 Earn & Learn Summer Employment Program. The program is expected to place approximately 330 Southwestern Connecticut youth into summer jobs and will give priority to individuals from low income households. The Summer Youth Employment Program will pay youth (ages 14-21) for 20 hours per week at minimum wage for up to 7 weeks starting in July. Federal guidelines and eligibility requirements must be met in order for a youth to participate in the program. Youths may begin applying today. Applications are available by visiting www.workplace.org and must be received by May 23rd. The WorkPlace is also seeking employers willing to hire youth for the summer. Active recruitment for Work Sites is underway. Businesses, non-profit organizations, or municipal government agencies may hire a youth for the summer at no cost. Wages are paid directly by The WorkPlace. Youth cannot replace laid-off employees and the program excludes the following recreation-oriented job sites: swimming pools, golf courses, aquariums, zoos, and casinos. This Summer Youth Employment program creates excellent opportunities for local youth to gain meaningful work experience while earning needed income. For participating employers, the program provides motivated youth who have completed work readiness preparation. By hosting one or more youth Work Site receive enthusiastic support for their existing workforce at no cost. Collectively, our community benefits by developing our young workforce.
