May 10, 2012 - PRLog -- A new web site launches today, www.POBox1142.com , which is part of a new Kickstarter project (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/afk/po-box-1142 )  to spread the true story of heroism by U.S. veterans in WWII that has implications for the world today. The PO Box 1142 project will include a book (paperback and eBook) and a movie treatment in addition to the web site.

“We are working to let the whole world know about a noble and human effort by U.S. veterans, many of them Jewish and whose families faced persecution abroad, that changed the course of history and offers many lessons for today. Amazingly, it is a story little known to the world, as it was kept secret for over 60 years,” said author Alex Kanakaris who is leading the Kickstarter project.

“With the web site now online, we are welcoming stories, recollections, photos and even free veteran dedications,” Kanakaris added.  Information can be sent to info@pobox1142.com . Kanakaris is dedicating the project to his high school teacher and mentor, the late Major Arnold Kohn, who served as Chief Intelligence Officer of PO Box 1142. Mr. Kohn was later a teacher at Pacific Grove High School in Pacific Grove, Calfornia.

PO Box 1142 is the amazing true story of the humane and historic treatment of prisoners that helped achieve the U.S. victory and shorten the duration of the war, impacted the cold war, the Central Intelligence Agency, our putting a man on the moon and forever changed the course of history. Because the mission was top secret and not declassified until recent years, the patriotic veterans held their silence for sixty years but are now honored by Congress, the Military and the Forest Service at Ft. Hunt Park, Virginia where PO Box 1142 was, and the story can now be told. This story of PO Box 1142 is just as relevant today as it was when it occurred and it is one that truly touches all the human emotions of war and peace.

The Kickstarter project PO Box 1142 includes several incentives for those who support the project. These include dedicated paperback and eBook editions, an official project poster, and even an ultimate package with copies of research materials.  The idea is to let the world know about the great values of the U.S. veterans who participated in the project, and to show an example for how putting values first is a great part of the American experience.
