By: Ashworth College Having served as Faculty Coordinator since 2011, Dr. Barkley’s expanded responsibilities involve managing all degree faculty, overseeing their impact on the teaching and learning process, and monitoring their performance. Her professional mission is to facilitate learning, incorporate adult learning principles into training practices and instruction methods, and strive toward improved organizational effectiveness. “It is an honor to serve the faculty and students at Ashworth College,” she said. “It affords me the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of our students and faculty on a daily basis. As Faculty Dean, I am committed to providing students with a quality education that is student-centered.” Dr. Barkley is a seasoned facilitator and trainer with nearly 5 years of faculty management and development experience, researcher with over 10 years of quantitative and qualitative data analysis experience, adjunct instructor with 10 years of college teaching experience, and consultant with nearly 10 years of organizational development and program evaluation experience at a number of institutions including South University, Bauder College, DeKalb Technical College and Axia College of Western International University. Dr. Leslie Gargiulo, Chief Academic Officer for Ashworth College, commented, “Joi has impeccable credentials and is a real credit to our degree programs and instructional models. She has already proven to be an extremely valuable asset to Ashworth College and will help us continue to grow as a leading player in today’s highly competitive and fast changing global education arena.” Dr. Barkely earned both her Bachelor’s of Science and Master’s of Arts degrees from Xavier University and her Ed.D. in Adult Learning & Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is a member of the North Atlanta Graduate Chapter Member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Originally from Cleveland, OH, Dr. Barkley is married to Daryl Barkley, M.Div., Th.M., Chaplain for Amedisys Hospice. They reside in Snellville, GA and are the proud parents of a two year old son. In her off time, she enjoys digital scrapbooking, family fitness, and extreme outdoor sports.
