Follow on Google News | Dave Reed pleased with debut performanceThe Dave Reed Racing team entered the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour race this past weekend at The Bullring at LVMS with several questions to be answered for the new team.
By: Derric Shannon An intermittent electrical problem hampered the team during practice and qualifying. The team found the problem and made repairs but had to start at the tail of the field after qualifying 26th. Team driver Jason Jefferson, who had last been behind the wheel of a race car last summer, quickly blew off any rust he had gathered and put the Voli Light Vodkas Ford Fusion through its paces during the early laps. The race was only slowed three times for caution leaving long green flag runs allowing Jefferson to push the car to its limits. After losing a lap to the race leader two-thirds through the event, Jefferson was able to run comparable laps times to the leader and maintained his position at the front of the field despite being a lap down. When the final caution flew with less than 30-laps to go, Jefferson opted to drop to the tail of the field in order to give the lead lap cars room to race. In doing so, he also gave up a few positions to the field. Over the final 20-laps however, Jefferson was able to pass several cars and crossed the finish line in the 14th position. "The finish is not exactly what we had planned but when you start that far back you have a lot of work to do," Jefferson said. "On the flip side, the team did an outstanding job and rolling the car into the trailer without a scratch on it is really good. We learned a great deal during the race that will help us improve going forward." For his part, team owner Dave Reed was also pleased with the event. "We had a little new car blues," Reed offered. "Jason drove a really smart race and got a solid finish for our first time out." Plans call for the team to also compete in select SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour races the rest of season as well as participate in marquee events like the Montana 200 (Kalispell, MT) in July, the Nashville 400 in Nashville, TN and the Snowball Derby in Pensacola, FL later this year.
