Continental Underfloor Sprint to Olympic Medal

May 21, 2012 - PRLog -- Thanks to Continental Underfloor’s innovative use of superfast broadband, news has spread quickly about the company’s recent win at the Cornwall Business Awards for “Best use of Superfast”.

Continental’s ICT Manager Simon Smith and Chairman Chris Ingram accepted the award from Olympic medallist Roger Black and Jon Reynolds, Regional Director of BT. Chris Ingram commented: “ ICT plays a significant role in the continuous development of Continental Underfloor as a national player in the underfloor heating industry, and it is very rewarding to gain recognition for our innovative application of superfast broadband.

Cornwall is very privileged to experience this technology before most of the UK, and so we are determined to embrace this competitive advantage to improve the efficiency of our internal operations and deliver a more streamlined and powerful service to our national customer base.”

Olympian Roger Black who presented the award said: "This is an exciting time to be a business in Cornwall. The county is in the process of rolling out a superfast broadband programme which will make it one of the best connected places in the world. In the same way that London 2012 is providing a world stage for athletes, Cornwall now has a world stage for its own business talent and expertise."

Continental  sprinted past fellow shortlisted companies and were highly praised for their adoption of IT systems which broke down communication barriers between their Cornish offices, including permanent full size Skype walls ‘connecting’ the offices, and interactive ‘water coolers’, which permit colleagues to chat over the clichéd water cooler, regardless of the miles between them.

“Thanks to superfast we have injected fun and improved the ‘team spirit’ across our offices. From a commercial perspective we have saved time and money in a number of ways, such as enabling quicker and larger file sharing capacity and database access, and real time quotes and orders for our customers across the UK, which ultimately give us a great competitive edge against our national and international competitors,” says Chris.

This is the second award listing for Continental with the Cornwall Business Awards, following a silver nomination for Best Use of Technology in 2006.
