Apocalypse Survival Taught In Schools To Prepare Kids For The Future

Thomas Holochain, a physical education teacher, was the first to initiate the program after getting positive feedback from his students. Previous to the official campaign launch, he had spent a few weeks giving his kids pointers on how to respond to tragic situations using some of the equipment in the survival backpack he had purchased from an online retailer. This was inspired by similar efforts in the University of Michigan where a professor applied the idea of a zombie apocalypse to teach his summer undergraduate about human behaviour in response to a catastrophe.

Although not really curriculum based subject, Holochain believes that awareness and preparedness for danger is a basic goal of physical education. This is the reason why he endeavors to perfect the course pack and provide kids essential guidelines that would enable them to survive life, natural calamities and accidents; not just a hypothical end-of-the-world scenario. Holochain has also solicited the involvement of school counsellors as well nurses to give students expert advice on treating injuries or handling diseases as well as combatting stress and controlling negative human feedback.

With their whole lives ahead, and the amount of uncertainty they are faced, such lessons are priceless for kids today. There have been a lot of violence and lawlessness going around. And considering how the climate has been unstable for the past months, it is timely for such Apocalypse survival classes to be held – not only to teach children to protect themselves but to protect others as well. We can never be too careful. And as much as prevention is better than cure; readiness is the key to endurance. It is only Holochain and his’ colleagues hope that the rest of the institutions in America open their eyes up to the need of this type exposure.
