Kitchnefsky Foundation hopes to reach a $500,000 goal with their June 24 golf tournament at Stone Hedge in Tunkhannock.

The Kevin Kitchnefsky Foundation is the only organization of its type in Northeast PA with the ultimate goal of finding a cure for paralysis. In 1996, while on the job for a construction company in New Jersey, Kevin was unloading two stacks of chain-link fence from a tractor-trailer. After one of the crew removed the top portion, he climbed to the top of the remaining stack to remove the wooden pallets that separated the stacks. Just after he jumped off the truck, the remaining 27 units of chain-link fence, each weighing about 100 pounds, slid off the truck and pinned him against the tractor-trailer, breaking half a dozen vertebrae and damaging his spinal cord. The damage resulted in paralysis from the chest down. Kevin says, "Doctors, who are among the leading spinal cord specialists in the world, have told me that at the current level of medical technology, I have only a 1% chance of ever walking again.
