May 28, 2012 - PRLog -- This year the Sacred Arts Tour 2012 begins June 10 with the Tibetan Cultural Pageant at the Arts Center and will include the Yak Dance [and other dances], chanting prayers as well as a demonstration of debate by members of Drepung Gomang Monastery. During the week, the monks will be creating the Medicine Buddha Sacred Sand Mandala. According to Tibetan Buddhist texts Medicine Buddha has the ability to awaken self-healing and manifest the healing energy of all enlightened beings.

Event organizer Eve Barkley comments, “This is a unique opportunity to experience the Tibetan culture and religion that remains intact in the monasteries, in exile, in Southern India. Monks from Drepung Gomang Monastery have been visiting cities across the US since 1996.”  Gomang Monastic College is has produced many Buddhist masters and has been an important Tibetan Buddhist learning center.

This year’s tour is the monks sincerely wish to communicate a message of peace, wisdom and compassion to heal our anxious minds in these troubled times; to introduce the arts and culture of Tibet to North America; to generate funds necessary to support the nearly 2000 refugee monks who call the South Indian monastery in exile their home.
