In 1957 it was opened on Shelter Island in the Point Loma area by Jack Davis. In 1962 it was purchased by Rick Hills and Jack Dargitz. Jack’s son, Bill Dargitz took over 18 years ago and has run the restaurant ever since.

The Red Sails Inn has become a favorite of locals and travelers as well serving a lot of the standard breakfast items as well as some seafood selection such as fish and eggs, shrimp omelets, etc. The food is always fresh and well prepared. That is evident when you read the reviews from patrons on directories such as Google and Tripadvisor. The ratings are almost always 4 star which speaks well of the food and service.

Sometimes people are fooled when they first enter the restaurant because it is a little dark and the first thing you see is a bar. There’s a sign instructing you to seat yourself so as you keep walking it brightens up when you get to the actual restaurant. And there it is in front of you, the beautiful patio that everyone talks about.

You may be able to get Macadamia nut  crusted Sole or a Charbroiled Steak if there are no fresh fish available one day. They always want to serve fresh fish when it is available so if not, they will go with beef.
