JMHS and parent company Ashworth College offer a wide range of flexible career-focused programs.
By: James Madison High School The Shreveport Job Corps affiliate which is located in Shreveport, LA, and its national parent organization assist local youth, ages 16 through 24, to improve their quality of life through vocational and academic training. In combination with hands on career training, participating students complete core classes to fulfill graduation requirements. “We’re excited to be working with Shreveport Job Corps Center. Together, we’re committed to teaching young people the skills needed to become employable which can include completing their high school education,” said John Riser, Vice Principal for James Madison High School. “Helping students earn a high school diploma, JMHS and Shreveport Job Corps Center will be able to create a foundation for significant career advantages and put these graduates further ahead, compared to those not having a diploma or a GED,” he added. Riser also referencing a recent statistic from the U.S. Census Bureau, stating that high school graduates can earn as much as 30% more than a non-graduate. James Madison High School is among the first U.S. school to implement the mandatory Common Core State Standards curriculum, a state led initiative intended to level set the learning expectations of students, grades K-12. JMHS graduates are assured that their education transcends state boundaries and fully aligns with today’s college entrance requirements and work expectations. “Our high school diploma programs have been developed to specifically address the needs of working adults and non-traditional high school students which makes Shreveport Job Corps and James Madison High School a natural fit,” said Dr. Leslie Gargiulo, Chief Academic Officer for both Ashworth College and James Madison High School. Ashworth offers an extensive high school curriculum which includes high school correspondence courses and online high school diploma programs in general and college preparatory studies, vocational high school and a broad range of single high school courses. Ashworth also has similar contracts with Phoenix, Montgomery, Bamberg, Carville and Forestry Service Job Corps centers. About Shreveport Job Corps Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 through 24 improve the quality of their lives. In addition to career training, Shreveport Job Corps also provides academic training, including basic reading and math.
