The convoy, which included official launches carrying the majority of government Ministers, set off from Ocean Village to a chorus of air horns at midday, setting the party atmosphere. 36o Sailing joined the Jubilee flotilla in ‘Pacific Star’, a 50.5 foot Bénéteau Cyclades sailing yacht, skippered by John Mathews. He told us that the atmosphere was fantastic with everyone out to have fun and take part, though he did comment that the bagpipe recital at the turnaround point of Catalan Bay wasn’t enhanced by its broadcast over VHF radio! Certainly all aboard Pacific Star had a terrific day on the water in the glorious sunshine. Acting Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia said the flotilla was a wonderful way in which to celebrate the 60 years on the throne of Her Majesty the Queen and the Government had been pleased to support the event. “It was a very significant event at many different levels and it is obvious that the political dimension was not lost on many of those who took part,” he said.
