Corpus Christi Medical Center – Bay Area Reaches Milestones in Minimally-Invasive Robotic Surgery

Most Technologically Advanced Surgical Robotic Program in the South Texas Coastal Bend Expands

June 8, 2012 - PRLog -- The Bay Area Robotic Surgical Program has become the leading, most technologically advanced surgical program in the Coastal Bend.  After reaching an unprecedented number of surgeries in a little more than a year, the Program is expanding with the installation of two of the most advanced, state-of-the-art da Vinci® Si HD™ Surgical Systems, including the latest generation “Streamlined Integration” (SI) HD version. Features of the new system include fluorescent imaging technology and the ability to perform surgery with only one incision instead of four. Since the installation of the first da Vinci® Si™ Surgical System in February of 2011, physicians at Bay Area Hospital have now performed over 500 life-saving robotically assisted surgeries.

“As a leader for robotic surgery in the region, the expansion of the Bay Area Robotic program is representative of Corpus Christi Medical Center’s commitment to using the most advanced technology to care for patients,” stated Jay Woodall, Chief Executive Officer at Corpus Christi Medical Center.  “It is an honor to continue the tradition of being the first hospital in the Coastal Bend to provide various advanced technologies to our patients. In addition to what is already offered, we’re excited that new, additional surgical uses are available to our surgeons.”

“The advantages of robot-assisted surgery are significant,” said Dr. Shoemaker at his office in the Women’s Center at Bay Area. “The da Vinci® Si™ Surgical System allows surgeons to perform delicate procedures with unprecedented precision and improved visualization.  The Bay Area Robotic Surgical Program is setting the standards of healthcare and the initiating the future of surgery in the Coastal Bend,”

The da Vinci® Si HD™ Surgical System gives surgeons twice the effective viewing resolution for improved clarity and detail of tissue and critical anatomy, enabling them to offer patients minimally invasive procedures – including treatment of conditions as diverse as prostate cancer and hysterectomies – that result in less pain, discomfort, blood loss and a quicker return to normal activities.
