Bobby argues, “Exports are key to domestic recovery and growth. . ."
Among the US Chamber of Commerce members in the audience at the May 30 signing was small-business- "It is satisfying to witness the signing of this legislation," Bobby Patton also exerted his influence in moving the legislation forward by providing his testimony in congressional hearings held during April 2012. The Chamber applauded Congress for providing a strong bipartisan mandate. "Re-authorizing the EX-IM Bank," Patton explains, "was essential to maintaining the competitive position of more than 250,000 small and medium-sized companies that export. Based in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA, Patton has sold networking equipment into over 120 countries. Founded in 1984, the firm today employs over 100 local workers and generates about 70% of its revenue through exports, which would not be possible without Ex-Im. While American companies of all sizes are beneficiaries of the Bank, small businesses account for 87% of Ex-Im's transactions. Tens of thousands of smaller companies that supply goods and services to large exporters also benefit from Ex-Im's activities. Bobby argues, “Exports are key to domestic recovery and growth. Eighty percent of the world’s purchasing power lies outside the United States. There is tremendous global demand for quality and innovation—two areas where US manufacturers shine." In his statement, Chamber President Tom Donohue said: "This is great news for thousands of American workers, businesses of all sizes, and taxpayers, who can cheer the fact that this bill will reduce the deficit by hundreds of millions of dollars." Referencing congressional approval of trade agreements with Korea, Colombia, and Panama last October, the President reaffirmed the importance of exports for the US economy: "Soon, there are going to be millions of new customers for our goods and services in Korea, in Colombia and Panama."
