McKinney Buick GMC is Proud to Sponsor Kids Summer Lunch Program

July 2, 2012 - PRLog -- The 2012 school year is coming to an end. While our community’s children are getting ready to take a break, hunger never goes on vacation. For many kids, their school's breakfast and lunch may be the only food they get each week. Meals are not provided when school is out for the summer, leaving many low-income families in a stressful situation. Minnie’s Food Pantry is assisting these families by offering a Summer Lunch Program which provides free lunches to youth ages 18 and under during the summer season.

McKinney Buick GMC is extremely proud to sponsor this year’s Summer Lunch Program, which is designated for children who receive free or reduced lunches during the school year. Over the coming months, the charity will deliver healthy, nutritious food to remote locations where kids are most prevalent during summer break, such as apartment complexes and community centers. Minnie’s will also distribute the lunches at their own facility and local churches. Lunches include items such as fruit roll ups, fruit cups, jello, peanut butter and jelly, granola bars and other healthy items.

We strongly believe that successful local businesses have a responsibility to give back to the community that has helped aid in that success, and we strive to do this by giving to local charities like Minnie’s Food Pantry. We also believe in the charity’s message that hunger is not acceptable. Anyone can pitch in to ensure that our community’s children are taken care of and Minnie’s is always accepting volunteers and donations.

In partnership with Minnie’s Food Pantry, we hope to put a lot of smiles on the faces of children throughout the city! In addition to sponsoring this year’s Summer Lunch Program, McKinney Buick GMC and Nissan of McKinney donated two vans to the pantry. Every day, Minnie’s uses these vehicles to pickup and distribute food to grateful families.
