By: GoodBuyHolidays.com West Bali National Park, or Taman Nasional Bali Barat, is a massive 190-square-kilometer park located in northwest Bali. Bali’s only national park accounts for about 10% of the island’s total land area. The park was established in 1941, and has been a boon for tourism in Bali ever since. With the island’s best snorkeling and diving spots, as well as an amazing array of scenery and wildlife, West Bali National Park is can’t-miss attraction on Bali. Bali’s calmest and clearest waters surround the northwestern tip of the Island. Charter a boat early in the morning from Labuna Lalang to Menjangan Island to find the best snorkeling spots in Bali. Menjangan Island is completely uninhabited, and it takes about 30 minutes to reach by boat. Snorkelers can spend hours inspecting untouched coral walls and seeking out the many sea turtles and exotic fish in the area. Birdwatchers will be challenged to spot the over 100 species of rare birds, including the Bali Starling (Jalak Bali). Tegal Blunder Trail is most popular bird watching trail in Bali, and the hike is an easy two hours. The Gunung Klatakan Trail is a more difficult five-hour hike that includes some amazing rainforest flora and fauna. The park requires that you use a guide to hike the trails, and some of the park’s trails are physically demanding. Climate in the park varies from rainforest to savanna, to lowland forests to montane forests. It’s usually a little hotter and drier in West Bali National Park than in southern Bali. West Bali National Park is virtually free of most tourism commerce, restaurants and accommodation, but there are several easy ways to access the park. Get to the park from Gilimanuk road or Singaraja road. Ferries from Ketapang are also available. Keep in mind that food and water will be nearly impossible to get once you’re in the park. A handful of hotels and resorts cater to tourists, but hikers and adventurers will want to bring plenty of food and water, and be prepared for the heat!
