The Claxton Capsizers Compete in the East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival

The 2012 East Anglia Dragon Boat Festival took place at Oulton Broad, near Lowestoft on a very sunny Sunday at the end of May, and once again attracted many teams from around the region.

July 19, 2012 - PRLog -- The East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival is one of the biggest charity dragon boat events in the country and the largest corporate team event in East Anglia.  Every year it attracts many teams, over 5,000 spectators and has to date raised more than £100,000 for charity.

This year’s charity was the St Elizabeth Hospice, which is dedicated to helping people living with a progressive illness and supporting their families. It provides services free of charge in Suffolk and has expanded its services into Waveney and Great Yarmouth. The Elizabeth Hospice relies on fundraising events such as the Dragon Boat Festival, along with individual and corporate donations and the income generated from its shops.

Dragon Boat crews can comprise of up to 10 paddlers plus a drummer, there is a minimum age of 16 but don’t worry no previous experience of dragon boat racing is required!  All crew members must be able to swim in light clothing and in moving water and compete entirely at their own risk.

One such crew was the Claxton Capsizers (named so after the early dip in the water the team took last year) who took to the water to take part in the seventh East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival, which has become tradition over the last few years for Claxton Engineering.  Twenty other teams also competed this year, in what turned out to be Claxton’s most successful year to date.

The team from Claxton improved throughout the day and had shaved 3 seconds off their time by heat 3. Alas, even with much faster race times than 2011 and with ever increasing speed through the heats, the Capsizers narrowly missed out on making it to the semi-finals. Overall, the Claxton Capsizers finished mid-table in position 10. That’s better than ever before – give it a few more years and Claxton (http://www.claxtonengineering.com/) may be lifting the trophy.  Despite not being crowned champions, a fantastic day was had by all.

At Claxton Engineering, they are use to overcoming everyday challenges and ensuring the success of unusual projects.  Based in Great Yarmouth, Claxton provides engineering and services for well systems, pipelines (http://www.claxtonengineering.com/Products/Pipeline-Tools...) and structures, working across the lifetime of the field from pre-drilling to drilling, production and decommissioning.  Combining experienced project engineers, a fast-track design-analyse-build engineering service and huge inventory of rental tools (http://www.claxtonengineering.com/Products/Rental-Tools-A...) to respond to the operating needs of our clients with extraordinary pace.
