'A romantic in Chicago' loves the sailing season

July 24, 2012 - PRLog -- July 20th began the 104th annual Chicago Yacht Club "Race to Mackinac" and Jacquée Thomas, known as  Jacquée T.,  covered it via her social media profiles and on her web site.

Miss Thomas has an intimate perspective as a former "Letter from Chicago" newspaper columnist. She has covered "The Race to Mackinac," or "The Mac," from the Chicago shore and from the Mackinac Island side. She has also been an invitee on local Chicago regattas, as an observer, on boats that participated in the races, as well as an observer on "race boats" with crew who monitored  race starts, and who served as race 'referees.'

We all love the lake
"It behooved me as a Chicago columnist to cover this huge aspect of our lakefront," says Jacquee T. "Chicagoans and visitors flock to the lakeshore. Motorists cruising  along Lake Shore Drive -- or stuck in traffic -- behold it."

During warm weather seasons, she says, sailboats with sails full mast, add to the beauty. "Landlubbers like me are fascinated by them, and curious about the folks who work the sails."

She learned that the Chicago waters host many annual regattas. When she started to cover them, "I realized that the starting lines were generally out of shore view sight."

Miss Thomas used her press pass to seek an invitation to be on board one of the boats during a race. That was the beginning of her dabbling with the sailors.

"I love sailors' passion," she says. "You bring up sailing, and they take a deep breath and regale you with reasons they love to sail, and examples of their experiences."
