Local families to benefit from Disney’s “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” Sock Drive

July 25, 2012 - PRLog -- Santa Rosa, CA (July 25, 2012) – Warming and comforting the feet of families in need is the goal of a North American effort the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions (AGRM) launched July 9 in cooperation with The Walt Disney Studios and Hanes. Redwood Gospel Mission, an AGRM member, encourages community members to donate new socks to help local families as part of “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” Sock Drive.

“Many of the infirmities that homeless people endure are actually borne in their feet because of all the walking and standing they do,” said AGRM President John Ashmen. “New socks—clean, dry and without holes—will go a long way to provide comfort and care for the men, women and children who are desperate for assistance.”

Inspired by “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” a Disney film slated for an August 15 release, the drive will be in gear until Sept. 3. Designated boxes are available at community drop-off locations, including Lange's Automotive in Sebastopol, Agapé All American Roofing in Santa Rosa, and Vine & Branches Nursery in Healdsburg as well as local churches. Redwood Gospel Mission will distribute the socks to the families it aids.

“A clean, warm, pair of socks is like gold when you have nothing.” said Jeff Gilman, Executive Director of Redwood Gospel Mission.

Hanes will match North American donations up to 10,000 pairs of socks.

“The Association of Gospel Rescue Missions is delighted that companies like The Walt Disney Studios and Hanes are collaborating on this sock drive,” Ashmen said. “Families will undoubtedly be warmed by the touching storyline of the movie, and ‘neighbors-in-need’ will certainly be touched by the warm socks people donate.”

The Redwood Gospel Mission (www.srmission.org) has served the homeless, broken and needy of Sonoma County for the past forty-nine years, providing services such as shelter, meals and clothing to the “least, the last and the lost” who find their way to their facilities.
