The traveller’s experience: an unforgettable day in El Rompido

July 26, 2012 - PRLog -- The sun slips through the bedroom window, we draw back the curtains and we can watch this image: the views from Fuerte El Rompido hotel (http://www.fuertehoteles.com/en/hotels/fuerte-rompido-cartaya/) over the marshland with the lighthouse as a guide. It is time to have breakfast, get a towel and head for the boat that takes us to the beach (a five-minute-walk from the hotel).

Every half an hour the vessel commanded by Miguel Garcia sails to the beach. During the five-minute trip we leave the marshlands and cross the river that is awakening from the lassitude of the night while we enjoy the sea breeze.

Upon arrival, the boat leaves us on the other bank of the river Piedras. During five minutes we go through the wooden walkway where we can watch the stunning plant species growing in the dunes. These shifting sands due to their nature have sparse vegetation such as sea holly or beachgrass, although in the broom-land (between the marshland and the beach) there are also plants such as bridal broom itself, mastic tree, corn cockle or thyme.

Perfect beaches for families

After this interesting walk accompanied by posters with useful information about the features of the site, we can find what we were looking for...the beach! A fabulous beach where the sight is lost, with crystal waters and near-white sand. We move closer and there is room to spread the towel without being disturbed. The beach has 12 kilometres for choosing our favourite place. Children can play on the sand or in the shallow water, while we can sunbathe or read a book. If you want there is also a deckchair and umbrella service.

Rose shrimp, a sea delicacy

We didn’t care for anything and the time has come to have a meal, there are many options but we want to move and know a little more about the area. Only ten minutes away by car we find Los Enebrales Natural Park and on the way you can find the famous chiringuito “Der Matías” (Matias’ restaurant). Here we enjoy cuttlefish, bean clams, clams, and especially the great star of the house: rose shrimp with its unique taste, intense and fresh, a real sea delicacy.

But if you think this was over, the best is still to come: the dessert. We know that pine groves are very common in this area and, what these pine trees produce? The answer is very easy: pine nuts. They cannot be better used than in the reputable house pine-nut cake, delicious and with a smooth texture, perfect to give the afternoon a sweet touch.

After having some coffee we take the car again and five minutes away we find Los Enebrales Natural Park, where its pine grove among the dunes astonishes finishing once more at a vast quiet and welcoming beach, perfect to take a siesta after the banquet.

After the rest, we take a bath and back to El Rompido (http://www.fuertehoteles.com/en/el-rompido-huelva/). Before dusk the weather cools down and, what is it better than to finish the day taking a walk or riding the bicycle on the marshland paths? The landscape is unique and the views catch you. Footpaths leading you to lagoons inhabited by herons, sandpipers or ducks, clam farms, or hiding places among pine groves... the route cannot be more relaxing. However, if you think that’s all, you will be surprised again and again.

There is the option of watching the sunset from the boat and dining right there. Again we come back to Miguel Garcia’s vessel, and he takes us on a trip chasing the now slippery sun that leaves behind the day on the horizon. The sea turns orange while we enjoy Huelva shrimps and wine from El Condado, ‘it is included on the fare’, Miguel tells us.

Finally, the sun has set, the day has been unique and unrepeatable, we have had a dip in a pristine beach, visited a natural park among pine groves, enjoyed meals based on good fish and seafood to take energy to make a hiking route among pine trees. We are tired, but ... surprisingly we are keen to keep going at the party... About 11 pm the boat Flecha Mar again sails on the river, this time with chill out music and drinks... but let’s leave this for those who have slept until midday!
