Ashworth College Launches Certified Pharmacy Technician Career Training Program

Aug. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- PEACHTREE CORNERS, Georgia – Ashworth College announced the addition of Certified Pharmacy Technician (http://www.ashworthcollege.edu/) to its roster of online career training programs. At the conclusion of the program, graduates will be able to sit for the Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT).

Committed to the success of its graduates, Ashworth developed the program to provide in-depth instruction on how to succeed in the medical and health care industry and for working with patients and medical professionals in hospitals, clinics and more than 50,000 pharmacies across America.

“According to the Department of Labor Statistics, the number of pharmacy technician careers is expected to grow as much as 32% within the next decade,” said Dr. Leslie Gargiulo, Ashworth College’s Chief Academic Officer.  “To keep up with demand it’s imperative that we give our graduates every opportunity to succeed -- which includes providing the most up-to-date course content and a path to certification.”

Once a student completes the base Pharmacy Technician online training program, Ashworth allows each graduate to sit for the Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) which is administered through a partnership with the National Healthcareer Association. Technicians who pass are granted the title of Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).

Ashworth’s nationally accredited Pharmacy Technician program is comprised of 15 comprehensive lessons, including learning objectives, lecture notes, review questions, multiple-choice exams and written assignments. Specifically:

•   Non-sterile Pharmaceutical Compounding and Human Relations
•   Infection Control; Preparing Sterile IVs
•   Medication Safety
•   Antibiotics, Antifungals, and Antivirals
•   Narcotic Pain Relievers, Neurologicals, and Psychiatric Drugs
•   Respiratory and Gastrointestinal Drugs
•   Urinary System and Cardiovascular Drugs
•   Muscle Relaxants, Nonnarcotic Analgesics, Hormones, and Topicals
•   Chemotherapy and Miscellaneous Pharmaceutical Products
