Aug. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- The Public Housing Association of RI (PHARI) dispatched judges from the Housing Authorities of Warren, Burrillville and Smithfield to judge the “What a Home Means to Me” Poster Contest.  Each year Housing America Housing America is a year-long campaign to inform the public and decision makers about the need to meet the country's affordable housing and community development challenges. NAHRO is joined in the campaign by partners from the non-profit, governmental, and private sectors. Part of Housing America efforts is the annual “What a Home Means to Me” Poster Calendar Contest.  The poster entries were judged at the Johnston Housing Authority by Executive Directors, Claire Martins, Jo-Anne Fournier and Clare Fortin. “The posters and stories were all so heartfelt, it was very difficult to judge, as they were all so good.”  Said Claire Martins. Clare Fortin offered her take on the contest, “Really, this contest provides concrete evidence of the positive impact of affordable, safe housing has on families served by our public housing agencies.”  Jo- Anne Fournier agreed, “There is a proverb which begins, from the mouths of babes, it appears that these children served by public housing with their honest interpretations of a domicile have captured not only our hearts but, the true meaning of what is home.”

PHARI President Jim Reed thanked the Judges for their time and did not envy there difficult decisions. “PHARI is lucky to have Executive Directors willing to encourage participation and also take time to support these terrific efforts. I know the choices were tough, great work and good luck to our winners, as they move on to the next level.”
