2012 Sweet Treats Cake Competition 9/23/2012

Sept. 14, 2012 - PRLog -- On September 23rd the cafeteria and gym of the Colonia Middle School in Colonia NJ will be transformed into a cake and cupcake wonderland!  The Jersey It Girl is planning the 2012 Sweet Treats Cake Competition as a fund raising event to benefit Colonia Middle School and the Woodbridge Animal Shelter & Pet Adoption Center.  

"I wanted to find a way to generate funds for CMS since the Blue & Gold Challenge was removed.  That event was CMS's main fund raising event, so I thought with the popularity of all things cake & cupcake this might be a good way to get some money back to CMS.  I added Woodbridge Animal Shelter as a beneficiary because of all of the wonderful work the volunteers do there for the animals."  

Mother of Cakes, Sugar & Cake Academy stepped up and became the show sponsor.   They have donated classes with hotel accommodations for their school in Pennsylvania as grand prizes, as well as other level prize items. They will be offering classes at this event as well, and will have a vendor table.  Icing Inspirations is a gold sponsor and have made a very generous donation as well.  They will be traveling from Canada to also teach and judge at this event.  Pampered Chef is a bronze sponsor and has donated baking related prize items and they will be having a vendor table at the event. Hospitality Sponsors like Gold Canyon Candles, Pastry Chic, Lucks, Simi Cakes, Icing Images, Jersey Cookie Girl, Photo Frost, Legal Shield all made monetary, prize or goodie bag donations - and some will be vending at the event as well.   Beth "Birdie" Carnevale of Cake It Up, LLC is donating a custom cake stand as a prize.  Marni Gold of Card Box Diva is also donating a gorgeous Cake Box as a prize and both of these women will be guest judging as well.  Many local residents made donations as well, including Judy Leidner and Friends of The Jersey It Girl :)

From Bobby Flay's 3 Days to Open, Confections of a Rock$tar Kimme Masi will be a special guest judge!

Other vendors to date include Body Wraps by Susan, Bellina Chocolates, Scentsy, Velata, Silpada, Sweet Temptaions, New Reflections, LLC, The Ladies Room on Main, All Kinds of Whoopie, All Star Dog Training and Paws Party.

You can participate in the event by being an attendee and come and browse the amazing cakes and cupcakes on display and vote for your favorite.  You can register to take a class or demonstration given by top chefs and sugar artists.  Some classes are being given by Norm Davis & Zane Beg, Dana Herbert, Jay Qualls & Vanessa Greeley, just to name a few!  A full schedule of classes is available on the jersey it girls website.  under the cake competition tab.  You can enter the kids in our coloring contest or sign them up for a hands on cupcake decorating class.  You can shop with our many vendors, which are being added to every week.  You can enter to win a KitchenAide mixer, a Coach bag and other fantastic prizes.  Don't forget to pose for a photo on our purple carpet, you never know who might show  up.  Come early ~ the first 100 guests 16 and older will receive a jersey it girl swag bag!  

You can also participate as a competitor.  Bakers and Cake Artists of all experience levels are encouraged to attend and participate from "sweet babes" youth 5 years old to master and all levels in between.  You may enter any or all 7 categories including celebration cake, wedding cake, school spirit, food & drink, sculpted cake, cupcake trio &  tasting.   You may register to take classes or watch a demo and everything else the attendees may do - and you may also vote for your favorite cakes as well!

We will have food vendors selling delicious food (Cluck U Chicken and others to be confirmed) and the Woodbridge Animal Shelter will have a bake sale table, so please stop by and visit them as well.
