Follow on Google News | East Hartford Mayor and State Senator applaud Environmental Office Solutions' achievementsEast Hartford Mayor Marcia Leclerc and State Senator Gary LeBeau were among the crowd that gathered to celebrate Environmental Office Solutions’ certification and compliance achievements today.
Environmental Office Solutions (EOS) is the largest print cartridge and used cell phone recycler in Connecticut and the only one in the state with R2, ISO 14001:2004 certification and OHSAS 18001:2007 compliance. Mark Tosi, EOS Executive Vice President, began the event by saying, “This certification allows us to better compete in the marketplace, provide additional jobs and expand our business in a more environmentally responsible manner.” To accommodate its growth and capacity for processing materials, EOS has nearly doubled its staff since the certification process began. EOS Vice President of Special Projects, Matt Service, further explained, “The road to R2 certification began a few years ago. We made significant capital improvements to better handle byproduct waste. We dedicated one and one-half staff — full time — for six months to the certification project, culminating in a final audit on June 19th of this year.” East Hartford Mayor Marcia Leclerc spoke at the event saying, “Not only is Environmental Office Solutions creating jobs in our community, but you’re also protecting the environment.” Gary LeBeau, State Senator and Commerce Committee Chair, was fascinated by the EOS business model and processing facility. He began his comments by quoting architect Buckminster Fuller, “’Pollution is really a misused resource and almost everything can be used again.’” LeBeau continued, “You’ Also in attendance was Janet Gemmiti of Capital Workforce Program. Gemmiti was the liaison for the State's Incumbent Worker Training Program with EOS and administers the new "STEP UP" Program for businesses in North Central Connecticut — a training program in which LeBeau was instrumental. This assistance and financial support was a significant factor leading to EOS’ certification and compliance implementation. Terry Stoddard, EOS Chief Operating Officer, gave a tour of the facilities explaining the company’s Zero Landfill practices — taking waste from trash to energy. Stoddard said, “It’s a real positive win for the environment — for everybody on the local, state and national levels. The R2 certification affects the way we handle used cell phones as well, which is a fairly new addition to the company. In our custom-built, secure cell phone area we completely remove all data — and are fully data complaint — so there is no information left on the devices.” About Environmental Office Solutions Founded in 1996, Environmental Office Solutions helps companies, government agencies and consumers recycle their used toner and inkjet cartridges from printers, copiers, facsimile and MFPs (multifunction printers), and used cell phones. The company operates in a 40,000 square-foot facility in East Hartford, Connecticut and serves customers worldwide. Since 1996, Environmental Office Solutions has diverted millions of used print cartridges (and more recently used electronic devices), from becoming landfill waste by supplying these items for reuse in secondary markets.
