The ABA Jersey Express which was founded in 2005 by Marsha Blount is gearing up for the 2012-2013 seasons. By now everyone knows that the Nets moved to Brooklyn and New Jersey was left without an NBA team. But Marsha and team want to change that. They would like to become the official team for New Jersey making the Prudential Center located downtown Newark their home court, but that will take a lot of cash. It is said just to turn the lights on in the center is $30,000 a game. But Marsha and her team remain hopeful. Audrey Bell-Kearney CEO of Ms. Boss Media was brought on earlier this month by Ms. Blount to help the team build their brand and to also secure the sponsors that they will need to run the team for the season. When I agreed to work with the team I knew I would be a little bit outside of my box, because my expertise is in marketing, media and PR said Audrey, but I decided to take the challenge in helping the team raise the necessary funding. Thinking outside of the box which traditionally is to go to business owners who are mostly local and ask them to become sponsors I decided to launch a global campaign on Indiegogo says Audrey. Indiegogo has helped thousands of artists, filmmakers and business owners raise the money that they needed to launch their new venture, so why couldn’t we do the same. The campaign has been launched, now the real work will begin which is to drive traffic to the site and get people to become sponsors. It would be really great if Shaq or some other ball players got involved. Not only would their involvement help The Jersey Express secure the Prudential Center as the home court, but it would also give the players a second chance of living their dream of playing basketball. The campaign on Indiegogo runs for 45 days, so Audrey and the team will be doing a lot of sharing over all of the social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter & YouTube. I set a goal of $750,000 which will take care of all of the team expenses for the year. It would be nice to double this and be in a great position going into year two says Audrey.
