Follow on Google News | Intercoiffure Board Member Coral Pleas Shares Industry Tips with MASTERS Audio ClubCoral recently sat down with Winn Claybaugh, founder of MASTERS Audio Club and dean and cofounder of Paul Mitchell Schools, for a timely MASTERS interview on leadership, business building, and the future of the industry.
By: MASTERS Audio Club For the past 18 years, Coral has been a certified Paul Mitchell National Educator and Platform Artist in the United States and United Kingdom, teaching the latest hair trends and business-building ideas and performing as a platform artist alongside legends such as Paul Mitchell Artistic Directors Robert Cromeans and Jeanne Braa. A firm believer in industry education, Coral attends numerous educational events locally and abroad, including New York, Miami, and London. Her photo work has been published in various national styling magazines, and she is an editorial stylist for Style magazine and the Sarasota Herald Tribune. In her September 2012 MASTERS interview with Winn Claybaugh, Coral shared her passion for no-compromise customer service and the value of lifelong learning. She believes that the next generation of hairdressers is changing the way we teach, and that they are motivated to learn at an accelerated pace. It has long been her vision to provide them with a creative environment in which to work and develop their passion. When the opportunity to work with her children became a possibility, Coral jumped at the chance. Their Cutting Loose Salon and Spa, founded in 2008, has been recognized as a “Top 200 Salon in America” by Salon Today magazine, as the “Best Hair Salon” by Living on the Suncoast, and as “Best of the Best” by Sarasota Magazine. Cutting Loose started with four stylists and now includes a team of 50; they’re building their fourth location in less than five years. “We are constantly seeking out and studying the latest industry techniques and services,” Coral says. “We are committed to pampering our guests while providing fashion and fun in a relaxed salon atmosphere, leaving our guests feeling fabulous.” In her inspiring MASTERS interview, Coral discusses the leadership style and staff training programs that set Cutting Loose apart from other salons. “We recruit, hire, train, and promote our stylists through our apprenticeship and After Hours salon (our training salon for rising stars),” Carol says. “Our in-salon educators teach an eight-hour class every Monday: four hours of theory and four hours of hands-on training with models that our students are required to bring in. With that commitment, we are able to grow and graduate our team at a faster pace without jeopardizing our quality. When promoted to Designer stylists, they relocate to one of the Cutting Loose Salons.” Coral considers herself a coach for her team, and she also enjoys being coached. “Having a coach helps me stay on track in becoming a full-time visionary and CEO, while practicing life balance,” she says.
