Sept. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- Imagine enjoying your morning coffee while watching a local program that rolls together news, commentary and audience participation, all delivered by DFW’s best-loved former news anchors. KTXD-TV has done just that. On Oct. 1, The Texas Daily debuts featuring names like Tracy Rowlett, Troy Dungan and Midge Hill, formerly with WFAA; and Phyllis Watson, formerly with WFAA and KDFW. Jeff Brady, formerly of WFAA, will act as host.

“We won’t be covering the everyday murder or house fire,” says Stuart Boslow, managing editor, The Texas Daily. “We are going to be covering smart news that affects our audience. And who better to deliver that news then the people you know and trust? The people who have been giving you that news over the last three decades.”

The Texas Daily is aimed primarily at the Baby Boomer generation, an over 40-year-old audience. The show will air five days a week from 8-9 a.m. and cover local news and offer commentary on what contributors really think about what’s happening in our region. The Texas Daily is affiliated with CNN, but the news will only include what is relevant to its Dallas-Fort Worth audience.

“As a Baby Boomer myself, it is an idea that I have carried for 11 years,” says Phil Hurley, EVP and COO of London Broadcasting, parent company of KTXD-TV. “Research tells us that no one else, in any other market across the United States, is creating this kind of programming for Boomers. We feel privileged to be the trailblazers—it falls into our heritage of a Texas broadcasting company, and serves an audience that truly grew up with broadcast television.”

“It’s going to be something that nobody’s done before,” says Dungan. “And that’s hard to say in this world—never been done before.”

“I think the show can really fill a void in the community,” says Watson.
More than a dozen commentators will come in two at a time, several times a week, to sit down with Brady and give their opinions on news events. “Previously our contributors were chained to the news desk for so many years, we thought they would have a little trouble opening up. That was not the case!” Boslow says.

“All of our commentators are extremely excited about this opportunity,” says Brian Joyce, KTXD-TV station manager. “Each one will give a perspective that is not only credible but also interesting to our viewers. We’re talking about journalists who have played huge roles in the landscape of TV news in the DFW market. Who wouldn’t want to watch a familiar face?”

Gary Cogill, formerly with WFAA
John Criswell, formerly with WFAA and KDFW
Debbie Denmon, formerly with WFAA
Jolene DeVito, formerly with WFAA
Suzie Humphreys, formerly with WFAA
Iola Johnson, formerly with WFAA and KTVT
Scott Murray, formerly with KXAS
Robert Riggs, formerly with KTVT
John Sparks, producer and writer formerly with WFAA, KXAS, KTVT and KDFW

“I have the opportunity to say on camera what I’ve been saying in my living room to my TV screen. We can do that on air now!” DeVito says.
